One of my coworkers gets this little tiny twitch right by his mouth when he's getting frustrated.  I seem to be pretty good at making him twitch, usually by not understanding something dumb and trivial (like how certain open source applications are so self-important that they have Linux kernel-like version numbering schemes which have no bearing on actual reality, e.g. version 2.4.1 isn't actually that much newer than version 2.2.3).

Now if I can get his whole face to twitch, that'd be something.

the codebases i work on by aphrael (2.00 / 0) #3 Sat May 10, 2008 at 01:22:11 PM EST
have a similar numbering scheme.

for example: one of the products i work on just branched off of the mainline code base. it's mainline codebase number is 2.2.66, so every version of the branch will be some version of 2.2.66 (this could easily get to 2.2.66.50, although i hope not).

meanwhile, the mainline will continue, so the other products i work on will have numbers like 2.2.67, 2.2.68, etc.

it may be that 2.2.66.50 is released after 2.2.69.

meanwhile, we also have work going on the 2.1 codebase and the 2.3 codebase, so 2.3.20 is released before 2.2.66, for example.

A mature, stable IM client which doesn't really have that much work happening on it, especially not with parallel version forks.
