So is this one.

A few questions though: What is Duma Key?

What sort of job should /dev/trash get?

What kind of wait is that? 9 months, seriously?

And now some commentary: YouTube is pretty awesome.  Don't read the comments though.

It's only 8:24.

If it is worth doing, it is worth practicing until you succeed.

Programming with georgeha.
dev should try more ways to meet chicks. That karaoke stuff seems promising.

If dev worked with me, there's lots of loose women working in one of our divisions.  This would solve two of his problems.  There are, however, no openings.

I don't program by georgeha (4.00 / 1) #3 Tue Feb 05, 2008 at 08:43:43 AM EST
I just deal with them. I'm not even sure how programmers get hired here, some are from deals with certain universities, some because they have very special skillsets (PhD in Color Science).

but dev does. It was just a thought.

Yes it is. by dev trash (4.00 / 1) #8 Tue Feb 05, 2008 at 10:11:48 PM EST
I'm also reading Fierce Invalids home from Hot Climates.
I'd love to program with georgeha
One of the placeholder diaries was going to talk about how I failed to meet a chick, who I think was interested in being met.  After two days why harp in that one thing.

It's what Keyser Söse uses to open his front door.

> What sort of job should /dev/trash get?

Can he write multi-threaded device drivers for Linux? I could hook him up.

> What kind of wait is that? 9 months, seriously?

Not enough time to get the baby room ready.

> YouTube is pretty awesome.  Don't read the comments though.

You fail it. This is not a question. However, I will make a comment: "YouTube has comments?!?"

> It's only 8:24.

Lord, I know. I feel a long day dragging out before me.

> If it is worth doing, it is worth practicing until you succeed.

Abso-fucking-lutely.

How much time can I use to learn? by dev trash (2.00 / 0) #6 Tue Feb 05, 2008 at 10:07:56 PM EST

Yeah, straight C. by ObviousTroll (2.00 / 0) #10 Wed Feb 06, 2008 at 07:36:12 AM EST
But at this point I don't think we'd hire someone who didn't already have some driver or embedded experience. We've had some nasty experiences with the last few people we hired.

OTOH, if you're serious, I can check around and see if  the openings we had still exist. Philadelphia area, and we'd probably want to see some code.

Just keep your objects in your pants where they belong, would ya' buddy?

It's hard to find people with driver experience which is why I mentioned embedded - not exactly a bigger target, I know.

The biggest problem is remembering all the details by ObviousTroll (2.00 / 0) #14 Fri Feb 08, 2008 at 09:23:25 AM EST
The good news about Linux is that you can see the source. The bad news about Linux is the core developers don't give a fuck about backwards compatibility with other people's device drivers. This means you have to deal with a lot of code that changes over and over as they make ridiculous changes to the APIs with every dot release.

It used to be better when the dev kernels were a different branch from the production ones but with 2.6 I've seen as much as 200k lines change between one "build" of 2.6.9 and another, and they've been known to rewrite the DMA APIs, completely, at the drop of a hat.

What kind of work have you been doing?

Duma Key is one of the 7 novels Stephen King has written.  I am a member of the SK Library so I have it already.  it's 601 pages.

A job where I am not bored.  That's what I've come up with today.  I'm massively bored.

I only make comments on YouTube.

the rejection letter came about 5 weeks ago.  The friend who called was supposed to 'get me in'.  Apparently not only was HR slacking in telling me no, he was not actually being active in 'getting me in'.
