It's actually KT by fluffy (4.00 / 2) #3 Sun Jan 20, 2008 at 05:19:13 PM EST
Her name is Kate, and she prefers to be called Katie, which she spells KT.

(She feels that Kate is a name suitable for "a buxom lass baking bread for her man working in the fields."  She also named her loop pedal "Wee Bastard."  She is awesome.)

As I've said before, my daughter has that link by greyrat (4.00 / 1) #5 Sun Jan 20, 2008 at 08:50:09 PM EST
handy on her computer. Most recently she was whining about not understanding her algebra homework. I told her "go click that link." She shut up and got her homework done. Perfectly of course.

I saw the KT Tunstall vid when it was making the viral rounds.

When I'm imprisoned as an enemy combatant, will you blog about it?

I was wondering why you seppos all seemed to know about Ms Tunstall.  Did she actually release (and appreciably sell) over there, or was it a strictly youtube thing?

The loop pedal thing by yicky yacky (2.00 / 0) #10 Mon Jan 21, 2008 at 07:03:37 AM EST

isn't hard to do. Anyone could teach themselves to do it in one afternoon. The playing and singing bits take a tad longer.

Well, sure by fluffy (2.00 / 0) #13 Mon Jan 21, 2008 at 04:31:34 PM EST
I have a loop pedal which I like to mess around with for this stuff.  However, there's a big difference between being able to use a loop pedal for wank and being able to use one for live performances, particularly to replace an entire band on a song which wasn't arranged around a single chord loop.

Anyway the context of this post was that I was at a Plaid concert with MillMan, R343L, s, and a couple of s's friends, and at one point MM and I were talking about how purely arrangement-based electronic acts have a hard time seeming impressive on stage because all the audience can really see is some guy fiddling some knobs and maybe fiddling with a mouse, and if they at least had some actual instruments on stage it might come across entirely differently.  And I mentioned how some non-purely-electronic acts (such as Blake Lewis and KT Tunstall) have been using looping equipment to do realtime electronic-style production using more traditional instruments and how as a result they actually do have a decent stage presence.
