Print Story I shouldn't be allowed to shop with my mother.

I feel sorry for my husband.  He’s going to quit letting me go shopping with my mom.  It always ends up costing him, today being no exception.

It wasn't that long ago that I went house-shopping with her looking for a home for her.  I came home, asking my husband to go look at this house for us.

Today’s shopping trip with mom.  She wants to find some artwork for her house, and a new kitchen table.  She didn’t find either.

I was going for three things.  Some powder, an extension cord, and a blue pillar candle.

I came home with three things.  Sort of…

As I’m loading the cart up with bathroom accessories for the guest bathroom, I’m rationalizing “it isn’t really this expensive of a trash can because it’s on sale”  “Guests will never put their toothbrushes in this holder—I still have to get it, because it matches.  And it’s on sale!”

Well, it looks really nice in the bathroom now, and it wasn’t as expensive as it could have been.  But that wasn’t on my list!

So the second thing--somehow, in our search for a kitchen table for mom, we find a bedroom set for our guest bedroom.  I call my husband about, and he says if I want it, get it.

Once again, we try to find a kitchen table for her at the next store.  Only we get sidetracked again.  This time, she buys a new mattress and box springs.

So we head back to the first store, to get the bedroom set, and as I’m settling up on my purchase, I jokingly tell her that she should find us a family room couch, as we were planning on buying one soon.  So she wanders away.  I finish the transaction, and she comes back with a grin.  “I found it!”  She’s so proud of herself.  When I ask her what she found, she says “well I found the couch you told me to find.”

Okay, so I really didn’t mean it, and feel badly now that I’d told her to go find me furniture in jest, and she was actually seriously looking.  I have her show it to me, thinking it isn’t going to be anything I’d want in our house.  But it is…it’s a lovely couch set.

Long story short, I call my husband again.  This time he comes to the store to see it, and tries it out.  Then buys it for me.  I’m so spoiled!

So, 3 things on my list, 3 purchases..none of which match.

I’m waiting for him to tell me I can’t go shopping with mom anymore!  Of course, on the other hand, it means he didn’t have to traipse with me through store after store in search of furniture…or even worse, bathroom accessories!  So maybe now tomorrow, when I ask him to go shopping with me for some powder, an extension cord, and a candle, he’ll think it’s not such a bad deal by comparison? ;)

I shouldn't be allowed to sleep...

I guess I shouldn't be allowed to comment in other people's diaries.
