I will be in San Francisco from Saturday the 16th to Tuesday the 26th, visiting friends and family (and also there for a job interview with a particularly well-known Internet company, but that's almost incidental, really).

I will likely have plenty of free time with which to meet up with people. (Though apparently some of my SongFight friends have already spoken for the more lucrative chunks of it, so act fast!)

Can you make it to south of market around noon on a Monday-Thursday?

Almost certainly by fluffy (2.00 / 0) #2 Tue Apr 12, 2005 at 07:02:41 PM EST
Though the recruiter instructed me not to make any plans for Friday since she's not sure how long they'll need me for. My interview starts at 10:30 and I guess it has the potential to last until like 5 PM.

oooh, could I come? by R343L (2.00 / 0) #4 Tue Apr 12, 2005 at 09:21:07 PM EST
I know that you probably don't know me, but I read both of you all the time (and comment occasionally).

Plus I don't know any husites/k5 people out here (did in DC...)

Speaking of long interviews, when I interviewed for my job here, I came in around 9AM. Didn't leave till 5PM (hour-ish lunch in there plus a few forms to fill out). They told me later that usually there is a second day almost as long, but since I had worked for them as a contractor before, they didn't bother. Don't know if I could have taken two days of it...

Oddly enough by ucblockhead (2.00 / 0) #5 Tue Apr 12, 2005 at 09:53:38 PM EST
I've never actually met any Husi/k5 people who live here.

Met plenty of people from other states/countries. Go figure.

hmmmm by R343L (2.00 / 0) #7 Tue Apr 12, 2005 at 11:39:49 PM EST
I know of you and aphrael around here. Not sure if there are any others but it seems likely, being tech-central and all.

I haven't met too many husi/k5 people (just one meeting in DC), but I think that's because I'm not very sociable, not that there haven't been any. I mostly lurk. :)

Sure! by fluffy (2.00 / 0) #6 Tue Apr 12, 2005 at 11:35:39 PM EST
I remember you from k5 though, no need to be shy. :)

Though, while the interview is in San Francisco, the job itself is actually in Seattle. Though I'll also be following up on a lead in the bay area (Cupertino, specifically, tee hee).

I post about 1/N times for every N by R343L (2.00 / 0) #8 Tue Apr 12, 2005 at 11:44:37 PM EST
of anyone else, where N is usually quite a large number, so I can't exactly expect anyone to remember me. :)

Big company if they interview in SF for jobs elsewhere. But Cupertino (excuse me while I look that up) ...

I would suggest you have a look at my company  but we don't do exactly do graphics. We're kind of chronically anti-pictures/guis here. :(

Okay, Cupertino. Ook. That's South Bay which is quite foreign to me (North Bay).

What company would that be? by fluffy (2.00 / 0) #10 Wed Apr 13, 2005 at 11:16:37 AM EST
I'm actually pretty bored with graphics programming at this point, and much prefer server-side and systems-level development such.

I figured that Cupertino would be a pretty big clue though. Just for the followup, I mean. The actual scheduled interview is for someone that everyone knows and loves. Location-wise Seattle seems nicer to me, though I have more friends in SF. Job-wise I've pretty much resigned myself to something where I go in, work for 8 hours on useful (if not very sexy) stuff, and go home, unlike my last job which was go in, work hard for 10 hours on useless (and sometimes sexy but usually retarded) stuff, and be expected to dedicate every waking moment of my existence to it.

wouldn't like it here by R343L (2.00 / 0) #11 Wed Apr 13, 2005 at 12:57:16 PM EST
We work on cool stuff (well I think it's cool), but if you're in my group at least (professional services) there are times when you dedicate your life to it. :)

Company is Kabira if you want to take a look...

I wouldn't know where any computer company is. I'm always surprised when I see a sign for one of the biggies and go "oh, that's where that is." :)
